Item Description

A very interesting and unusual specimen of gemmy/translucent golden Muscovite Mica from near Little Fountain Creek in El Paso County, Colorado. This creek is just east of I-25 on the southern end of Colorado Springs. I have to believe that the piece was "cut" in order to creat the shape. When backlit, the color is beautiful, and according to the label, the piece has inclusions of Hematite and Magnetite. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a hand written label from Wulff that states the piece was personally collected by the legendary field collector, Edwin Over, who was also one of the founding members of the CSMS with men like Wulff, Lazard Cahn and George White. A wonderfully historic and eye-catching specimen from what was probably a tiny spot that Ed Over found and cleaned out during his thousands of field collecting experiences.
