Item Description

A cool and beautiful specimen of Muscovite from the historic Urals Region in Russia. This piece comes from an old East Coast collection, with an historic label from the legendary mineral dealer, Hugh A. Ford. Since the label has Ford's New York address it dates to 1946-1957, and it's simply labeled as "Ural Mts., Russia". There is also a label from the Calvert Collection that states it's from "Siberia". Sharp, lustrous, deep greenish tabular hexagonal crystals of Muscovite up to 8 mm across sit beautifully on matrix. I like the fact that the crystals are not lying flat on the matrix, but actually are freestanding. I don't have an idea of where it might be from specifically, perhaps a Russian mineral expert might know. A great old time piece of this well known Mica species with beautiful color and form.
