Item Description

Biotite and muscovite combinations are EXTREMELY RARE from the well-known pegmatites around Governador Valadares. MINDAT does not list Biotite and there are few muscovites featured in the locality Photo Gallery. The sculptural thin biotite plate hosts a striking 5.8 cm water-clear muscovite "window". Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 11165 and acquired at the Tucson Show in 1987 from respected Brazilian dealer Carlos Barbosa. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Rare, perhaps unique biotite with muscovite.
