Item Description
Typically Mica species are seen as accessory / accent minerals to other species, but occasionally we will see fine quality examples where the Mica is the star of the show. This piece is a great display quality specimen featuring hexagonal groups of sharp, lustrous, well-formed silvery-beige colored Muscovite blades measuring up to 3.7 cm across, free of matrix. The piece is crystallized on all sides, and is very close to being a complete "floater". I love how the crystals are growing at stark 90 degree angles, creating a three-dimensional display specimen with lots of character and visceral appeal.
From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased. This piece is pictured on mindat.org at https://www.mindat.org/photo-229661.html
