Item Description
Murmanite is a rare hydrated sodium titanium silicate species, named in 1930 after the Murman coast on the northern side of the Kola Peninsula, Russia (mindat.org). It's actually the namesake species of its own mineral group, part of the larger Seidozerite SupergroupHide comprising 45 titanosilicates. The best and most well-known examples of this species are those from the Lovozero Massif in Russia, one of the most mineral-dense localities on Earth (415 confirmed mineral species have been found there as of the time of this posting according to mindat - https://www.mindat.org/loc-2697.html). This piece is a wonderful example from Selsurt Mountain (Flora Mountain) featuring purplish-pink lamellar crystals of Murmanite, associated with black prismatic crystals of Aegirine, a common association for this classic material.
Ex Colin Manlove collection.
