Item Description

A really cool Murdochite association specimen from the collection of Allen Heyl (for whom the species Aheylite was named after). This piece comes with a handful of labels including one from Allen where he states that this piece is part of the type material! Another label from Percy Porter states that he had this material several years before it was described. Allen comments on the back of the label from Percy Porter that although the type locality is Mammoth-St. Anthony, Tiger, Arizona a second find was made which had more Pb than Cu, which I'm assuming is in reference to this material. The piece features small black Murdocite crystals with bright green acicular "sprays" of Malachite plus bladed Calcite (Allen states that it could be Smithsonite), plus micro reddish Cuprite on an oxidized matrix. If you look closely at the micro photos we took with our MP-E 65mm Canon lens, you can see great detail of all the species.
