Item Description

The rare lead copper oxyhalide Murdochite has been known since 1955 and was named after Joseph Murdoch, a mineralogy professor at UCLA. This specimen features hundreds of semi-metallic, grey-black colored micro crystals of Murdochite covering small hexagonal Quartz crystals on host rock matrix from the famous Blanchard Mine in New Mexico. The piece looks fantastic under magnification, and is a really fine quality example of these famous and very hard to find material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#7192). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
