Item Description

Murdochite is a rare secondary lead-copper halide found in the oxidized zones of lead-copper deposits this rich and fine large combination plate hails from the famous Southwest Mine at Bisbee, Arizona. Sparkly, brown-black murdochite microcrystals are richly clustered on several areas of the gossan matrix crust covered with translucent, acicular malachite crystals and are very nicely accented by scattered calcite rhombs. There is more malachite and calcite on the back of the piece. Murdochite was not identified until 1953 from the Mammoth-St. Anthony Mine at Tiger. Self-collected by Harold Urish in March, 1991 # 451.
