Item Description

A rarely seen specimen of dark brown/black Mottramite with minor Wulfenite crystals on a Quartz flux Gold-Silver ore matrix. The specimen is from the collection of noted geologist Allen Heyl (Aheylite), and was a gift to Richard Kosnar in 1991. According the Allen's label that accompanies the piece, the specimen was self-collected by Heyl in 1984. The reverse side of the label states that the piece was analyzed by the famous mineralogist Gene Foord (Foordite), by XRD. According to Heyl, this locality was "new" when he found the piece, and was not written up in any New Mexico locality lists at the time. A very cool, unusual and documented specimen from New Mexico!
