Item Description

Mottramite is a well-known secondary ore species, but it's not often found in fine quality presentable display specimens. This miniature specimen comes from a discovery in late 2011 find at the historic Ojuela Mine. These beautiful and fine quality specimens made a huge splash at the 2012 Tucson Show, and we were fortunate to buy the lion's share of the top pieces. This piece is a sculptural and showy example of these now famous and distinctive Mottramites featuring aesthetic botryoidal groups of velvety, bubbly greenish-brown Mottramite "balls" forming almost stalactitic growths to create a highly aesthetic specimen. The largest individual "ball" measures about 1.0 cm across. Superb quality and excellent form. The front/display side is in wonderful condition, but please note that there are some contacts on the back piece, so it's not pristine. It's still eye-catching for a species that is rarely found in such displayable pieces like this. A must have for any collector of secondary ore minerals or specimens from the Ojuela Mine. Valued in the inventory at $1,250.
