Item Description

Here we have a big and impressive "Oval Cabochon" cut stone of Morrisonite or Morrison Ranch Jasper. These stones are sometimes marketed as the "King of Jaspers". The material varies greatly in the banding/patterning and range of colors, which include eye-catching reds, oranges, yellows, golds, greens and blues with mixed earthy tones as well. The name Morrisonite is attributed to a ranch owner in the area by the name of James Morrison, who is credited as first discovering the material. Morrisonite has a good following among the metaphysical crowd due to claims that the stone will give its owner the ability to better relax, allowing a sense of tranquility / peacefulness. This stone features a central portion of gentle peach-beige hues, with thin outlines, almost as if it were some kind of fossil, and the outer edges features mixed colors ranging from pastel greens and yellows to stronger golden-brown hues. There doesn't seem to be much of this material on the market, and there's a blog post from snobappealjewelry.com which states the material hasn't been mined since 1996, so don't miss out on this big showy stone for your collection, a "pocket stone" or as a big center stone in a pendant.
