Morganite & Schorl on Cleavelandite (Bill Larson Coll.)

Item Description

A striking 2.7 x 2.6 x 2.1 cm morganite crystal is aesthetically set atop the mounded matrix of bladed cleavelandite peppered with contrasting schorl crystals. The glassy, lustrous, textbook, hexagonal beryl is a pretty pastel-pink and is water-clear to translucent. The nest of schorl prisms. to 1.7 cm, implanted on the morganite face adds real flair to this very showy piece. This is an important and significant locality piece from the less well-known Blue Lady Mine in the Warner Springs Mining District. Discovered in 1905, the mine was worked initially for blue indicolite tourmaline. Intermittent production has taken place since. This excellent piece probably dates to 1980s collecting efforts.
