Item Description

The Elizabeth R. Mine is well-known for very fine San Diego County Morganite specimens and this is a very attractive and showy example dating back several decades. The main focal point is the 1.7 cm crystal prominently sitting in the center of the Microcline Feldspar matrix. The crystal is very sharp and highly lustrous, and fairly gemmy with the typical pastel-pink color for the locality. Additional smaller partial Morganite crystals can be seen on the piece, along with white bladed crystals of Albite (var Cleavelandite) and scattered Quartz crystals. The main Morganite crystal is in excellent condition with no major damage, only a tiny bit of superficial imperfections that I can see with the naked eye. It's rather rare to get your hands on showy matrix display specimens of Morganite from the Elizabeth R. Mine, and this piece comes with an older label that dates the piece approximately back to the 1970s-1980s. Priced in our inventory at $2,000. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
