Item Description
A classic specimen of the uncommon Zeolite species, Mordenite from the well known occurrence at Tairua. The piece features a crystallized vug lined with gentle white "tufts" comprising needle-thin aggregates of snow white Mordenite crystals. This is a species that is not often seen in well-crystallized examples, and is probably best known for its association with Cavansite from Wagholi, India, but always as matrix and is never the primary focus for collectors. Fine crystallized Mordenite is not very common, and this piece is gorgeous under the microscope, as the crystals almost look like they should be a living organism or perhaps the home of some tiny creatures. Ex Wouter Van Tichelen Collection.
