Mordenite

Item Description

Striking and beautiful, these pink spheres of Mordenite are from the famous traprock quarries in India that produced so many other zeolite species more commonly than this species. These well-formed spheres are composed of super-fine acicular needles, with many terminations extending out like the spines of a sea urchin. The excellent, pearly luster of these crystals not only enhances the rare, pink blush of the Mordenite, but also creates a snow-like sparkle on the surfaces. The largest sphere is an impressive 2.7 cm across, and where exposed, you can see the dense, sharply-defined, radiating structure of these clusters. Between the rare color, scintillating surfaces, and rich coverage over the vesicular basalt matrix, these traits combine to create a high-quality and very aesthetic small cabinet specimen. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl, a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces.
