Item Description
A VERY rarely seen Moonstone specimen from Mexico. The piece came to Rich Kosnar from noted Mexican collector, Miguel Romero in the 1980's. Moonstone (a variety of Orthoclase) is soft milky white stone, but the most valuable variety of this Feldspar are those with a sheen. Moonstone shows a silvery or bluish iridescence, that is caused by the intergrowth of two different types of Feldspar with different refractive indexes. The color of these crystals is a silvery-beige hue, but when rotated in the light, one can see the classic "adularescence" which causes a milky blue sheen to appear. Perhaps the most important aspect to the piece is the fact that the crystals are really sharp and lustrous compared to most I've seen from any world locality. If you're a Feldspar collector, or if you're interest in unusual gem crystals, do not pass this one up. Valued at $450.
