Item Description

Moonstone (also called rainbow moonstone) has been adored by people for thousands of years (dating back to the Romans). Moonstone shows a silvery or bluish iridescence, that is caused by the intergrowth of two different types of Feldspar with different refractive indexes. Moonstone was very popular with the Romans, who thought it was formed out of moonlight, also used in Roman jewelry since 100 AD. In India moonstone is considered a sacred stone to this day. This stone is a beautiful fairly "gemmy" "Elongated Pear" cut stone. Typically, Moonstone gems are slightly "milky" or grey in appearance, but the most valuable variety of this Feldspar is those with a rainbow sheen or "adularescence". You can see a blue-green sheen in this gem when it's reflected in the light. This is great quality gem Feldspar, and for the $100 starting bid, this stone is still well worth buying in my mind.
