Item Description

A beautiful association specimen from this revered phosphate locality, featuring "sprays" of orange-pink Montgomeryite associated with white English on matrix. The finest examples of Montgomeryite ever found are those from the Tip Top Mine, and I think the same could be said about Englishite. Both of these minerals were named in honor of icons in US mineralogy, as Arthur Montgomery (1909-1999) was a well-known mineral collector and dealer. In the early 1970s, Montgomery was also responsible for putting up the money to start the Mineralogical Record. George English (1864-1944) was one of the premier mineral dealers and collectors of his day, and according to mindat.org, "his collection of phosphate nodules led to the discovery of several minerals including this one - {Englishite}". The piece is beautiful under magnification, and you rarely see any specimens of Montgomeryite on the market anymore, so if you're a fan of rare minerals or phosphates, don't miss out on this one. From the collection of Colin Manlove
