Item Description

The Tip Top Mine is world famous for its phosphate species, and this piece features several of them in one toenail sized specimen. The main focus is on the attractive monclinic crystals of red colored Montgomeryite which are associated with white Fairfieldite and / or Messelite with grey-black Todorokite and a tiny bit of white Whitlockite. If you collect Tip Top phosphates, this is a great combination specimen featuring the great species Montgomeryite named after the famous mineralogist, Arthur Montgomery ( https://mineralogicalrecord.com/labels.asp?colid=592 ). Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9920). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
