Item Description

A lovely light yellow colored, gemmy crystal of Montebrasite from Brazil. These crystals were labeled as Amblygonite for many years, but it turns out that virtually all of them are Montebrasite, and Amblygonite is a notably rare mineral now by comparison. This crystal features well-formed faces on all sides, and even though the termination looks broken, it's actually crystallized everywhere, so it just had an odd growth or possibly and interrupted growth. You don't see to many Montebrasite crystals this size with such good internal gemminess, they usually get fairly opaque once they reach a few cm. Priced at $1,450 in the inventory. Specimen weight is 48.4 grams. From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased.
