Item Description

A fine example of the twinning in monazite, from finds of the 1970s-early 1980s, and in classic form. This shows off thick red-brown, interpenetrating, doubly-terminated, well-formed prismatic pair (twinned xtls on {100}) that form a “X” shape. Monazite is rarely crystallized so well, and is a rare-earth (REE) thorium phosphate. From Brad van Scriver (Van Scriver’s Minerals, Garden Grove, California), September 25, 1985, with label and invoice. Appraised value: $800.00.
