Item Description

Molybdophyllite is an exceptionally rare species, only found in FOUR places on earth, according to mindat.org (and one of those localities is marked as questionable). The species is a lead magnesium silicate, which is certainly unusual as you don't see many silicate species that contain lead. This piece is from the type locality, the famed Långban Mine in Sweden, considered to be one of the world's greatest mineral localities. This piece is a beautiful small cabinet specimen featuring pseudo-metallic, foliated, micaceous blades of Molybdophyllite measuring up to about 3 mm across, with an attractive reddish-brown hue and a slight surface iridescence. You'd be hard-pressed to find another example of this material for sale, and the added bonus of having a piece from the type locality is always of value. Don't miss out on this one, it's the only we have to offer, and it's quite attractive in person. From the collection of Colin Manlove.
