Fantastic and RARE large display quality molybdenite crystal from the Piaotang Mine of China. The LARGE, striking, sharp, hexagonal, brilliant metallic gray foliated crystal is 6.5 5.2 x 2.1 cm and is waxy to the touch. The crystal is aesthetically set on a matrix of smaller crystals and granular molybdenite. The Piaotang tungsten-tin mine is better known for fine fluorite, euclase and rare purple scheelite specimens. Large molybdenite specimens from the mine seldom come to market because they are a valuable ore there and most of them go in the crusher for refining. Specimens of this size and caliber shocked the world when they first came to light in the early 2000s, and remain rare and often misattributed to other locations in China.
