Item Description

The historic, but little known, Azgour Mine in north central Morocco is developed in an unusual Mo-W-Cu deposit and this piece is a great example for the Molybdenite found there. Several large, bright silver-gray, hexagonal Molybdenite crystals are found on this handsome cabinet specimen on and in a Quartz-Diopside matrix. There is one, freestanding, 2 cm crystal displayed prominently along with several other crystals of similar size frozen in the matrix. The crystals have a mirror-like metallic luster with a good hexagonal outline so typical of the species. The matrix is a mix of grayish Quartz and rich, translucent green, subhedral Diopside crystals. It is a fine specimen of Molybdenite and exceptional for this unusual Moroccan locality.
