Item Description

The large-scale Henderson Mine is not only one of the largest molybdenum deposits in the world, but according to the listing on mindat.org, it has been the largest producer of moly in North American for many years (over 40 million pounds mined in 2007 alone!). This piece is a great example featuring beautiful, fine quality, tabular, hexagonal silvery "slick" Molybdenite crystals measuring up to about 2 mm on matrix. The Molybdenite crystals are beautiful under magnification, and they truly look like top notch Swiss Hematite blades! Even though countless tons of ore are processed at this mine, very few specimens survive the crusher, and good sized pieces such as this are rare to find on the market. If you collect sulfides, or Colorado minerals, do not miss out on this one. From the collection Brian Kosnar.
