A large beautiful cabochon cut gem olive-green moldavite from the Czech Republic. This very fine large gem has 12.51 carats mass. Moldavite is a tektite varietal. Tektites are a natural glass formed from a meteorite impact melting the local rock, thrown up into the air and coming down as molten globs. Moldavites are named after the main occurrence at the Moldau river in Southern Bohemia and originated due to the impact of a meteorite in Bavaria, Germany 15 MM years ago. The former dealer valued this at $10/carat or $125.10 retail.
