Item Description
Mohawkite is a rare mixture of algodonite, domeykite and arsenic-rich copper and is only found only two places in the world - both on the Keweenaw Peninsula. The Mohawk Mine is obviously the Type Locality. This sculptural 2.9-ounce or 83 gram nugget has been polished and sawed on two ends to show its pretty silvery tone with a strong hint of gold. A few years back we acquired the only available stash we know about of this material, which was mined in the 1950s. It had been sitting in a garage for a long, long time.
