Item Description
A rare unpolished small cabinet specimen of Mohawkite from the famous extinct Type Locality mine in Copper Country. Mohawkite is a mixture of algodonite, domeykite and arsenic-rich copper (and possibly further species) and is unique to the Keweenaw. An unusual piece, in that most of the material was either smelted for the rich ore or polished for lapidiary objects, while this remains in its natural form. Dense ore at 447 grams or nearly a pound. Ex David Burgess Collection, for whom Burgessite is named.
