Item Description
An odd and striking specimen of bright red-orange Minium (lead oxide) which according to the label have formed pseudomorphs after preexisting Anglesite on matrix from the famous locality at Broken Hill. I can honestly say that I've never seen one of these before, and the eye-popping color combined with the relative rarity of the material makes it a very worthwhile pickup from this classic locale. I have seen a few specimens of Minium replacing Cerussite from Broken Hill, so it is possible that this piece may be a pseudo after Cerussite and not Anglesite, but I'm sticking with the label for now. Highly representative of the species at this locality. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1726). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
