Item Description
An uncommon lead oxide, this specimen of Minium features a bright reddish orange, earthy crust on a contrasting dark matrix. While minium has been reported from multiple localities around the world, those from Broken Hill mines formed during mine fires in the late 1800s to early 1900s, in which cerussites were basically scalded and morphed into fiery orange-red crusts and rarely crystals. Natural minium is somewhat rare and occurs in only a few locations.
