Item Description

I can honestly say that I have only had a few pieces of Smithsonite with Mimetite from Tsumeb to offer prior to this piece. Both species are obviously fairly common from this prolific locality, but a Tsumeb collector will tell you that it's not easy to find the two minerals together. Any Tsumeb completionist should JUMP on the change to add a piece like this to their Tsumeb suite. As Tsumeb specimens go, this is an interesting piece featuring well-crystallized silvery colored hexagonal prisms of Mimetite which are nearly fully coated by green (Copper-bearing?), "rice-grain"-shaped Smithsonites on dense lead-bearing matrix. A very hard to find piece from this beloved locality. Value $300-$400. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1048) with a label from Shale's of Los Angeles, California. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
