Mimetite var. Campyllite (Trimingham Coll.)

Item Description

A classic specimen of the famous "campylite" from the Dry Gill Mine in England. This variety of mimetite is most commonly associated with this locality, and its distinctive rusty orange color and somewhat spherical barrel-shaped crystals are some of the most well known of all English minerals. The vuggy matrix is richy covered with lustrous, rich orange spherical aggregates of campylite on a black matrix of romanechite(?). The largest campylite group measures about 4 mm across. A very nice miniature specimen of this well-known historic material. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection.
