Item Description
Classic, famous "Campylite" Mimetite crystals are densely clustered or are strikingly isolated on the layered mounded quartz and gossan matrix. The highly lustrous campylites grade from deep orange to olive-green. The crystals are up to about 6 mm wide. These striking, unique, spherical, barrel-shaped crystals are some of the most well-known and highly sought-after of all English minerals. The historic Caldbeck mines were extinct by the 1870s, with the heyday being from the 1820s to 60s. The torn faded century-old German label is incorrect. Campylites are from the Dry Gill Mine, not the Red Gill Mine, which is noted for fine linarite and caledonite specimens. Ex Obodda dealer stock. valued $1000-1200
