Item Description
A sparkling and colorful example of the classic Mimetite variety known in the 1800's by the local species name of Campylite for its color and shape. With a range of colors from orange to olive, Campylite is one of the most classic of lead species found in the north of England. The luster is very good, and this small cabinet is notable for the slender prismatic crystals up to 8 mm, which is a most unusual habit for the famous Dry Gill locality. There is a layer of crystalline Quartz between the Mimetite and the matrix, making it a fine combination piece. Dry Gill was active as an ore producer from 1830-1869, so for any of these to survive this long, and in such good condition, is a testament to the care it received. Old George English label. This is a sparkling, unusually beautiful example of this old material! Still today, it is unique among mimetite. Valued $1000
