A display-worthy example of this classic variety of Mimetite known by the local name Campylite, which came into use in the mid-1800s. Campylite typically has an orangey to brick red color, and is one of the most classic of the lead species found in the north of England. This particular piece is notable for its high luster, rich color, and habit. Minor damage is evident in photos. The well-known Dry Gill Mine is famous for these rounded aggregates of curved crystals, which is the habit seemingly unique to Campylite. The largest of these Campylites is 1.1 cm across. This is an aesthetic and high quality example of this Mimetite variety. These pieces are part of a century-old Italian collection that was recently acquired. A true 1800s era classic, as witnessed by the fact that they considered this one of England's own native species, long before it was found to be a rather weird variety of mimetite and renamed.
