Item Description
Classic and showy old-time mimetite variety campylite from the historic Dry Gill Mine of Cumbria. Lustrous, ochre-yellow to orange-red, curved barrel-shaped mimetite prisms (campylite) are attractively set on the oxide-coated, vuggy, sugary quartz crystal matrix. The campylites reach 9 mm. Yes, there is some damage, but this is an important old-timer in this size range, highlighted by the 125 year-old+ old label. Dry Gill was active as an ore producer from 1830-1869. Ex Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 6525 and acquired from the Cisneros' at the 1971 MSSC Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A classic old-timer.
