Item Description
Lustrous rusty-orange, distinctive barrel-shaped crystals of mimetite variety campylite are densely clustered to beautifully isolated on the vuggy, starkly contrasting black gossan matrix on this classic, very rich, old-time specimen from the famous Dry Gill Mine of Cumbria. The famous lead mines at Caldbeck Fells were worked out by 1876, so this fine piece is easily over 130 years old! Primary production was from the 1840s-60s. A bit of bruising is noted, but in the context of this old piece, it is certainly exceptable. There are more crystals on one side and the back. Excellent material in this richness and has multiple fine display views! Ex Herb Obodda dealer stock. valued $800
