Item Description
An excellent, old-time, mimetite variety campylite specimen from the historic Dry Gill Mine of Cumbria. Lustrous, olive-green to honey-brown, curved barrel-shaped mimetite prisms (campylite) compose this entire curved crust. The inside of the curved crust and contacted areas are coated with iron oxides. Being 100% mimetite, the coverage is excellent. The contacting and bit of bruising is noted, but are very modest detractions for such an important old-timer in this size range. Dry Gill was active as an ore producer from 1830-1869. Fine pieces were recovered in recent times, but this is definitely a 19th century piece. Ex Herb Obodda dealer stock and comes with a German label with a 1918 date from either the Bohm dealership in Munich or Bohm dealership in Vienna. valued $750-1000
