Mimetite var. Campylite (old 1800s classic)

Mimetite is rare from the historic mines at Pribram, and the variety Campylite even more so. The yellow-green balls of Campylite are highly lustrous, and the crystallization in each of these 1-2 mm clusters makes them sparkle. That sparkling, in and of itself, is quite uncommon in Campylite. The distribution of these spheres on the matrix, populous on one end and more sparse on the other, actually adds to the interest of the piece as your eyes are drawn from end to end. This is an aesthetic and old-time example of the Campylite, which is seldom found and highly sought-after. Previously in the Miller collection from the 1800’s, after which it went to James B. Cone and the Wadsworth Atheneaum, and then to the Loomis Chaffee School.
