Item Description

A classic specimen of the famous "Campylite" from the Dry Gill Mine in England. This variety of Mimetite is most commonly associated with this locality, and its distinctive rusty orange color and somewhat spherical barrel-shaped crystals are some of the most well known of all English minerals. The piece features many lustrous, rich brownish-orange semi spherical aggregates of Campylite on a matrix of Quartz with grey-black Psilonmelane. The largest Campylite group measures 4 mm across. A nice small cabinet specimen of this well-known historic material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11333). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
