Mimetite var: Campylite (classic material)

Item Description

Here we have a lovely, classic piece of the famous and iconic "Campylite" specimens from the Dry Gill Mine in England. For a time, "Campylite" was valid species, but it now defined as a variety of Mimetite. It is most commonly associated with this the Dry Gill Mine, and its distinctive somewhat spherical barrel-shaped habit of the crystals are some of the most well known of all English minerals. This is old classic material, and it's notably hard showy good sized display pieces like this on the market these days. The piece features many lustrous, strong orange colored semi spherical aggregates (which transition to more of a brownish-yellow shade along the periphery) of Campylite with bladed white Baryte on black Romanèchite matrix. The largest Campylite group measures 7 mm across. Most of the Campylites are in good shape, though there is some roughness on the piece, mostly around the edges where the piece was separated from the pocket wall. Still, a very attractive and highly displayable specimen of this well-known historic material. Valued $3,500.
