This is a classic specimen of the famous "Campylite" from the Dry Gill Mine in England, once considered its own lead species but known now as a mimetite variety. This variety of Mimetite is most commonly associated with this locality, and its definitive, burnt orange color and curved, barrel-shaped crystals are some of the most well-known of all English minerals. The piece features numerous, lustrous, rounded, composite Campylite crystals that result in a subtle and unusual textured surface, which adds greatly to the aesthetics and interest. They are set on a highly contrasting matrix of black manganese oxides. This is a great small cabinet specimen of Campylite from this classic English locality. Gorgeous strong color!
