Mimetite - superb TN, rare style

Lustrous, hexagonal, yellow-green Mimetite crystals are artistically clustered on a small piece of rusty colored gossan matrix on this showy and excellent thumbnail specimen from Elura (previously labelled as Mt Bonnie but that was wrong - it is indeed the Elura find, very unique). The lustrous, tabular crystals reach 1 cm and are loosely clustered to show the great crystal form on each individual crystal, especially the large one at the top. No damage to crystals on the display face and only minor contacting on the right rear of the piece. An excellent competitive level thumbnail specimen from this locality that are seldom seen today. We can admit that Mimetite from Australia is usually not considered among the world's great specimens for the species, and tends to be dull and drably colored but one particular pocket from the late 1980s has stood out and still stands the test of time. This remarkable pocket of green to yellow mimetite crystals came from an active silver mine.
