Item Description
Typically the Mimetites from the Potosi Mine are similar to pieces from the Ojuela Mine with yellow, resinous clusters, but THIS piece is superb quality not only for the locality, but for Mimetite in general. Razor sharp, GEMMY, highly lustrous, intense yellow color, thin, prismatic hexagonal crystals of Mimetite measuring up to 5 mm sit atop an oxidized matrix on this beautiful and fine quality small cabinet specimen. The close up photos tell the story as these are some of the most lustrous and gemmy crystals I've seen from the mine, regardless of size. The piece is not 100% perfect, but the majority of the crystals are damage free. I can't stress enough the top gemminess, color and "wet" looking luster on this piece. The specimen dates back to the mid to late 1970s. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#13204). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
