Item Description

Olive-green spherical clusters of nubby to euhedral mimetite crystals totally cover the undulating surface of this sculptural large plate from this much less well-known extensive mining district in Durango Mineral specimens are in fact, RARE from Velardena. Cuprian green mimetite is a rare varietal from this locality, as mimetites shown in mindat are yellow. The bit of scattered bruising is certainly only a modest detraction to this rare, very rich and showy large piece. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. Thanks to well-known and respected Mexico specialist, Dr. Peter Megaw, for clarifying the locale. Both labels with the piece list the famous San Francisco Mine in Sonora.
