Item Description
A wonderful thumbnail specimen from the Mount Bonnie Mine featuring a handful of sharp, well-formed, fairly thick, tabular, hexagonal crystals measuring up to 6 mm across sitting on gossan matrix. The Mimetites show a wonderful habit with pronounced basal faces and modifying pyramidal faces on every side. The color is a soft yellow tone. Very attractive up close, with only one broken edge to one of the Mimetite crystals. A great specimen of this now very hard to find material. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
