Mimetite (RARE locality specimen)

Item Description

Taouz is best known for its Vanadinite specimens (often seen on dark Goethite/Hematite/Hollandite/Psilomelane matrix), but Mimetite is RARE. This particular piece dates back to a discovery in 1982 according to Kurt's collection catalogue, and is quite possibly the single best example of the species that we've seen from the locality. The piece features a good amount of well-formed, rich yellow-orange colored of Mimetite measuring up to about 6 mm on dark oxidized matrix. Upon close inspection, the Mimetites have complex crystallization, with lots of little modifying faces, and some of them have formed semi-spherical clusters, while others have a bit more defined hexagonal faces in areas. The piece is in good shape, though a few have interrupted / contacted growth. Overall it's a rather impressive and showy display piece of a species that it not typically seen from most Moroccan localities. Valued $1,500-$2,000 for the rare locality
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#281 MC), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
