Mimetite (rare color and locality) (ex Bob Reynolds Collection)

The Sammy Dog Mine (Ironwood Mine) in the Silver Bell Mountains of Arizona is best known for its beautiful Mimetite specimens, but this one is notably different than most I've seen in terms of color and crystal habit. You'll see a lot of thin narrow prisms of yellow colored Mimetite from this locality, but this particular specimens features rarely seen RED aggregates of an almost botryoidal habit measuring up to about 4 mm on oxidized matrix. Mimetite is rarely seen in red crystals from any world locality, and to have one from a more obscure mine in Arizona is a big deal if you're a collector of secondary ore minerals. Don't pass up the chance to get your hands on this beautiful and obscure specimen, as we may never have another like it from this mine to offer again. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
