Item Description

A VERY RARE and rich mimetite and wulfenite combination small cabinet from a most obscure California locale – the Morning Star Mine, Imperial Lode District, Lavic, in San Bernardino County. The sculptural gossan matrix is festooned with two generations of straw-yellow mimetite prisms - larger hexagonal crystals, to 3 mm and smaller rounded aggregates of crystals.  Glassy wulfenite windowpanes and windowpane sections, to 4 mm, are scattered about on this super California comination rarity.  Undoubtedly old-time material, but no proof. Lavic wulfenite was described in a 1921 article in the American Mineralogist.  Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 13001 and acquired in the latter part of her extensive collecting career.  Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017).  A rare, perhaps UNIQUE California combination from an obscure locale.  A MUST for the California or species collector.
