Item Description

Secondary lead-zinc minerals are not the first thing that people think of when it comes to minerals of California, and this incredibly hard to find locality specimen is the only piece we've had to offer from the Imperial Lode Mine in the auctions. This old molybdenum mine lies north of Sunshine Peak in the Lava Bed Mountains, and closed many years ago. This attractive association specimen features small (about 1 mm) somewhat spherical groups (some showing hexagonal cross-sections) of pale yellow colored Mimetite sitting atop white bladed Hemimorphite crystals that measure about 6 mm wide on matrix. Specimens from this defunct locality (the old site of the mine now appears to be located inside of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms) are virtually impossible to find on the market, so if you collect secondary ore specimens, or you're a fan of oddball/esoteric localities, don't miss out on this incredibly hard to find, attractive specimen from this lesser-known mine in San Bernardino County. Former Wes Greenamyer specimen.
Ex George Loud Collection No. 41.7.2.2 CA.1; 9279 George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
